Elaine held an adviser's role in Wakefield M D Council for a number of years prior to moving to Rotherham Council and then retiring. She therefore she knows all of the schools in the Pontefract Academies Trust well. In her role in both Wakefield and Rotherham she worked extensively in both the secondary and primary phases of education so the cross-phase nature of the Trust appeals to her. She believes that securing good and better outcomes in the primary phase means that children join secondary school with an excellent chance of building further on that success. She believes that the challenge for secondary schools is to ensure that progress is maintained, and where possible accelerated, to provide the best possible start in their young adult lives, and beyond.
In her roles with Wakefield and Rotherham it was very important for her to remain up-to-date with changes to legislation, OFSTED inspections and also understand what constitutes good and outstanding practice. Having worked with so many schools over a number of years, she has been in a privileged position that has allowed her to see all kinds of excellent practice and, because of this, identify where practice could be improved.
Elaine has lived in the Wakefield area for 35 years and, now that she has retired, she would like to use her skills and experience to benefit our Trust in a voluntary capacity.
