Staff Spotlight: Learning Support Assistant at Northfield Primary School

This month, our staff spotlight is on Jess, whose role is a Learning Assistant at Northfield Primary School. Her role is incredibly important in ensuring that lessons run smoothly by supporting teachers, working with parents, and, of course, helping the children in our classrooms. Jess’s role is particularly important to ensure that inclusion is promoted in every setting, and that each pupil is encouraged to communicate, participate, and demonstrate self-confidence. Role’s like Jess’s ensure that school is efficient, organised and a supportive learning environment for all.

What is a short, fun fact about yourself?

I’m a qualified hairdresser!

What path did you take to lead you to the role you are in now?

I volunteered for 6 months and gained a wide range of experience in Key Stage 1 & 2.

What is your favourite/most rewarding part of your job?

Seeing the progress a child has made where I have had a big impact on their development is the most rewarding.

What Professional Development are you currently undertaking/ what are your career progression goals?

My career progression goal is to start a HLTA course and gain more experience across the whole school. 

What is a piece of advice or the best career advice you have ever been given?

‘Choose a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life’.
