Two New Mascots In Town

Pupils at Pontefract Academies Trust primary schools have been given an important task this week. They have been given the challenge of naming the brand new mascots from The Prince of Wales Hospice. Hospice hero boy and hospice hero girl are the new representatives of the hospice, based in Pontefract.

The six schools include Carleton Park Junior & Infant School, De Lacy Pontefract Primary School, Halfpenny Lane Junior, Infant & Nursery School, Larks Hill Junior & Infant School, Orchard Head Junior, Infant & Nursery School and The Rookeries Carleton Junior, Infant & Nursery School.

The mascots, together with a representative from the hospice attended assemblies at all of the six primary schools to introduce themselves, tell their story and ask the children for a name. All of the children were then given a worksheet that they have to fill out and give a name suggestion and reason for the name. These worksheets will then be reviewed by the hospice and a winner will be chosen.

Becki Taylor, Community and Partnerships Fundraiser at the hospice, said: “It’s always a delight working with Pontefract Academies Trust, so when our mascots arrived we knew we had to work in partnership with the Trust to name them. Delivering the assemblies with the mascots was so much fun, and all of the children were so excited to meet them. We’re looking forward to receiving all of the name suggestions and we’re hoping the children have used their creativity to think up something that represents the hospice.”
