New Resource Provision at Carleton High School

We are proud to announce the opening of a brand-new Integrated Resource Provision at Carleton High School, designed to support students with speech, language and communication needs.

This exciting development marks an exciting step forward in ensuring that all young people can access the education, support and opportunities they deserve.

The new provision offers 20 places and has been created in partnership with the local authority, who also funded the project. Together, we have responded to a clear need for enhanced mainstream support for students with communication needs.

Located in a fully renovated former caretaker’s bungalow, the space has been completely transformed into a dedicated learning environment that is both welcoming and purpose-built.

The Best of Both Worlds

What makes this provision unique is its enhanced mainstream approach.

Students remain fully part of school life. They attend mainstream lessons, learn alongside their peers, and benefit from the social experiences that a mainstream setting provides.

At the same time, they have access to a carefully structured programme of bespoke interventions, designed around their individual needs. Each student follows a personalised timetable, balancing mainstream lessons with targeted support. These interventions are closely aligned with the outcomes in their EHCPs, helping them to develop key communication skills and build confidence.

Supporting Every Student to Thrive

We recognise that every student’s journey is different. This provision allows us to acknowledge and support these differences, while maintaining high expectations for all.

By combining inclusion with specialist support, we are enabling students to access a full curriculum, achieve strong outcomes, and develop the skills they need for life beyond school.

“As Headteacher, I am incredibly proud to open our new Integrated Resource Provision. This is a significant step forward in enhancing our SEND support, enabling students with speech, language and communication needs to access personalised provision alongside mainstream education” said Mrs Shariff, Headteacher at Carleton High School.

“For our students with EHCPs, this new resource will make a meaningful difference towards their progress and individual outcomes while remaining firmly rooted in the life of the school. This model not only raises achievement, but also nurtures confidence, independence and a genuine sense of belonging – helping students to flourish today and in the future” said Claire Hughes, Director of Inclusion and Safeguarding for Pontefract Academies Trust.

This provision is more than just a new building, it represents our commitment to inclusion, ambition and opportunity for every student.

We are excited to see the positive impact it will have, not only on the students within the provision, but across our whole school community.
