Orchard Head attend Rob Burrow CBE train unveiling

On Friday 26th September, Rob Burrow CBE’s birthday, a train was unveiled at Castleford station to commemorate his impact on our community. Pupils from Orchard Head Junior, Infant and Nursery were among the first to be invited to see the train before it entered service on the Northern Railway network. They were invited to watch it arrive at the station and had the opportunity to board it. Northern staff even invited the pupils up into the front cab where the pupils took turns in making announcements and sounding the horn!

The train itself is striking with a large portrait of Rob which celebrates his legendary rugby career. Its design also raises awareness of Motor Neurone Disease (MND), with signage throughout the interior, encouraging conversations about the neurological condition. The MND Association – a charity close to the hearts of both Orchard Head and Pontefract Academies Trust – work tirelessly on improving access to care and fund vital research. Their mission is both admirable and inspirational, making it an honour to attend such a meaningful event.

The train stands as a remarkable tribute to a true hero, Rob Burrow. Our heartfelt thanks go to Northern Rail for this thoughtful gesture, which ensures Rob’s extraordinary story continues to inspire our community for years to come.
